Once it latches onto a sleeper it begins manipulating it’s dreams, turning them into nightmares. The living nightmare feeds on fear and once it consumes enough to becomes influential enough to attempt to possess it’s victim in an attempt to claim life once more. When attempting possession the living nightmare manifests itself in the Material Plane as a humanoid, smoky shadow.
